i read a book once by annie dillard where she said that loss follows you everywhere, even tiny little losses like not noticing five minutes slip by or forgetting where you put your other glove, and that loss is constantly piling up in corners and the backs of drawers like dust. and you can't escape it. but you have to just keep sweeping it away and away and away and keep going on. there's no way to hold onto every little thing no matter how much you want to. i wish there was.
