Tiffany: Oh, darling. I’m pregnant!
Arnold: Ah!
Tiffany: Ah!
Arnold: You’re dying!
Tiffany: (slaps him) I’m dying!
Arnold: Ah!
Tiffany: Ah!
(pause)
Conductor: Madam, may I have your ticket?
Tiffany: The little rotund boy has it. He is floating outside the window – oh little boy! (is shot) Ah! Who shot me?
Man: It was me, I confess.
Tiffany: Put your cigar out! It’s vile.
Man: Gladly, madam. (he puts it out)
(Tiffany dies)
Conductor: Hm. She appears to be dead. And without a ticket.

for some reason i'm thrilled at your outbursts, your political incorrectness. you underestimate your own energy sometimes, i'm thinking...
...and sweetie. sweetie? if i could take your issues between my fingers, like dust particles, line them up on a coffeetable accross from you...i wouldn't even title them, i'd just puff my cheeks and blow... or take your finger and have you write poems in their filthy little surface-collection...

Chris, after reading your journal I can honestly say that I know exactly what you are going through, I too went through a mental crisis when I thought that I didn't matter, and that all of "our" friends were only involved in themselves. In fact I think I'm still battling it. I don't know the answers and I am still working through it.The only piece of advice that I can give you, if you want to take it, is to find those moments when it is just you and one other person. That is when friendships really start to take off and you can just speak to that person. Also pick and choose. Its not easy trying to find someone who will want to listen to you, trust me I know, but they are out there, we have compassionate friends I swear! We all love you and care about you, and we want you to feel that you can talk to us. Now, this, as you may have guessed, is an open invitation to talk to me. But I understand if you feel that you can't. Asking for help is really hard, I'm still battling through it, so in conclusion read this with a grain of salt, but know that there is someone out there who knows what you are going through, and if you want to trade war stories, my door is always open

Actually, I thought it was pretty pissy when you announced to me after a few weeks in Oral Interpretation that we were engaged in competition. Perhaps that declaration was your own insecurity speaking, asserting that you thought I was trying to be competitive because that was your fear. The honest truth is: I wouldn't for the life of me begin to assume the arrogance it would take to announce that I was competing with you. For the record, I think we're equally matched, so the idea of a competition seems silly to me. But beyond that, it's important to try to be the best you can be for your own sake, and not because you're comparing yourself to someone else. It's like Joe said on Monday in Theatre Workshop: Separate yourself from your art. Art may be you, but you are not your art. My mom always said there are four rules for dying happy: 1. Show up. 2. Pay attention. 3. Tell the truth without judgement. 4. Detach from the outcome. In light of that, I want to say that I hope you have fun with the Oral Interp presentation. I can't wait to see what you do, because it should be great. Perfectly wonderful. But I want it to be that because that's what's in you to share with the class, not for that A+.
